April 15

Introduction Post
Project 1 Complete!

One of two or three boulders I'll be using to make the majority of the walls and ceilings.   Once I get the normal bakes out of the way I will return to texture everything and add additional details, like cracks and other marks.

Top: zbrush sculpt
Bottom: low poly + normal map

  1. Looking good Dennis. Your boulder has several sharp lines that define "faces" which lends an assumption the material was worked by human hands. If you were going for a completely natural boulder, you'd have to smooth out nearly all of them. The only sharp lines come from certain types of stone (slate, obsidian) at fracture lines; otherwise the material is smoothed out from erosion.

    1. Yeah, I'm still trying to get away from that artificial look. I'll do more studies soon.
